Server Migration
Server migration applies to the DPD Label Print desktop application installed on a server.
Move an existing DPD Label Print installation from one server to another — for example when replacing hardware or moving to a new machine — while keeping all your data (shipment history, settings, users and database).
All application data lives in the data folder you selected during installation (by default C:\ProgramData\DPD\LabelPrintClient). Migration works by copying that folder from the old server to the new one.
Before you begin
- Make sure you can log in to the old server and locate its data folder (default:
C:\ProgramData\DPD\LabelPrintClient). - Install the same or a higher version of DPD Label Print on the new server. Never install a lower version, as it may not be compatible with the migrated database.
- Have your login credentials ready — they are unchanged after migration.
Copy the data folder only while the application is stopped on both servers. Copying a running instance's database can result in corrupted or incomplete data.
Migration steps
1. Install DPD Label Print on the new server
Run the installer on the new server and complete the setup as described in Installation (or Server Installation for a shared, service-based deployment). Note the data folder path you enter during installation.
2. Stop the application
Stop DPD Label Print on the new server so no process is using the data folder.
- For a desktop installation: close the launcher window.
- For a Windows service installation: open the Services console (
services.msc), find DPD Label Print Service, right-click it and choose Stop.
Also stop the application on the old server so its data folder is in a consistent state before copying.
3. Replace the data folder
Replace the new server's data folder — the one you entered during installation (usually C:\ProgramData\DPD\LabelPrintClient) — with the contents of the same folder from the old server.
- On the old server, copy the entire data folder (
C:\ProgramData\DPD\LabelPrintClient). - On the new server, delete or back up the freshly created data folder.
- Paste the old server's folder in its place, keeping the same path.
If you configured a custom data folder location during installation, use that path instead of the default.
4. Start the application
Start DPD Label Print on the new server.
- For a desktop installation: launch it from the Start menu or desktop shortcut.
- For a Windows service installation: open the Services console (
services.msc), find DPD Label Print Service, right-click it and choose Start.
5. Log in and verify
Open the application in your browser and log in with the same credentials you used on the old server. Verify that your data was migrated correctly:
- Shipment history is present
- Settings and printer configuration are unchanged
- User accounts still work
- Customer / product configuration is intact
After migration
- Keep the old server (or a backup of its data folder) until you have confirmed everything works on the new server.
- Once verified, decommission the old server to avoid two instances running against the same account.
